Raffia Wall Hanging

I started working with raffia by chance when one of my neighbors said he noticed I did crafts and he had a new bag of raffia spools lying around.  It took me a few weeks to get around to actually using it, but it instantly became. one of my favorite crafting materials (move over, jute!). Lightweight and versatile, raffia is also easy to work with and very forgiving.

This was my second (successful) raffia project and I am so happy with it.  It packs a real visual punch with its size and texture and is guaranteed to give any room a boho, coastal vibe.

YOU'LL NEED

  • 1-2 Spools of Raffia

  • Scissors

  • 2 m (6 feet) of Jute

STEP 1: Cut the jute strips into three different lengths and group by length.

STEP 2: Fold the length of jute in half and tie a knot to create a loop

STEP 3: Starting with the longest raffia strands, loop two strands together with the jute.  See below:

STEP 5: Continue tying the medium-length strands of raffia until you reach about 2/3 of the final length you want your hanging to be, and then finish off by tying the shorter lengths of raffia
