WALL HOOPS

Raffia

I absolutely love raffia.  It's pretty, easy to work with, inexpensive, and adds a lot of texture to any object.  I also love the natural color.

These hoops are really easy to make and take up a lot of wall space.  They can be used in or outdoors and will give any space a tropical, beachy feel.  They are also so light that they are easy to hang without damaging your walls or furniture.

TIP: use a hook if displaying these outdoors so that you can easily take them down and store them during rain or snowstorms

You will need:

  • Wire hoop (I used tomato-cage hoops)

  • Raffia

  • Glue gun

  • Glue

STEP 1: Wrap a raffia string aroud the hoop to cover about 3/4 of the way around.

Start off by folding the rafia on to itself (see below)

STEP 2: Finish covering about 3/4 of the hoop with a dab of glue to hold everything in place. ***SET YOUR GLUE GUN TO LOW*** or you will burn the raffia

STEP 3: Cut remaining raffia into strips of desired length, I cut mine about 18 inches long and varied lengths a little. Tie raffia strips to the remaining, uncovered part of the hoop using a simple knot.

STEP 4: Tie knots to cover the part of the hoop not covered with raffia
