1- ELIMINATE CLUTTER
It may not be exciting, but eliminating clutter is the best and easiest way to make a room feel larger. Eliminate, organize and put away anything that is not necessary. Consider storage systems that make the most of spaces under beds and in closets, try furniture with built-in storage or baskets, and look into a storage space to rent, if off-site storage is a good option.
2- BLEND IN
The key to making a room feel larger is unity. You don't want to break up walls by painting windows and doos a different color. To make walls appear to recede and make a room feel larger, try to blend the windows and doors into the rest of the wall by using the same or a similar color. The same goes for baseboards, trim, or molding.
Using light, cool colors on walls will also help the room appear larger. If you decide to use a pattern on the walls, make sure it is small, and that the window treatment matches the background color on the pattern.
3- MAKE IT BRIGHT
Regardless of whether it's natural or artificial lighting, a bright room feels larger than a poorly-lit one. Make sure you're maximizing the amount of sunlight getting in by using small, light window treatments. Add lamps, sconces and overhead lighting if needed
4- GO WITH SMALL FURNITURE & A SINGLE ARRANGEMENT
Smaller furniture helps make a room appear larger. Don't use too much furniture, and try to go for a single arrangement, don't break up the room into smaller sections.
Use upholstery in solid colors or small patterns. Avoid bright or dramatic colors. Use light colors. Try matching your upholstery to the walls or window treatments. This will help the furniture blend in and help the room appear less cluttered and larger.
5- DON'T IGNORE THE FLOOR
While you can go with either light or dark floors (color won't affect the room size), don't break up unity here either. Avoid area rugs and large patterns that will break up the continuty of the floor.
